Wetland Delineation

The Section 404 permitting process requires identification of jurisdictional waters which can include streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands and coastal bays. Wetland delineations, jurisdictional determinations and stream assessments are all tools to identify jurisdictional boundaries. In addition to identifying the location and extent of these jurisdictional waters, an applicant is required to obtain a Section 404 Permit from the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) if jurisdictional areas are to be impacted. Additional studies and/or activities may be needed for a Section 404 permit including: a functional assessment of the impacted jurisdictional waters and a mitigation plan for those impacts.

Arroyo scientists have successfully completed wetland delineations, jurisdictional determinations and stream assessments throughout Texas for various sizes and types of projects (small private tracts less than 10 acres to

large public lands like Lake Wichita – 2,200 acres). Work has included emergent and forested wetland types in both inland and coastal ecosystems. This extensive experience has allowed the Arroyo team to build a valuable working relationship with all three USACE regulatory districts (Tulsa, Fort Worth and Galveston) as well as other environmental resource agencies.
